Chapter 28

Sharing History

Jere woke up later than usual the next morning, still wrapped around a warm body. It was Sunday, which meant it was a short day of work, which meant sleeping in. Jere stretched and smiled at the thought.

He pressed his lips to Wren’s neck, kissing him softly. God, but he felt wonderful! And it was so nice to sleep next to another person again—for a minute last night, he felt Wren get up, as if to leave, but he had beckoned him back, kissing him again until they fell asleep together. Shameless, but it worked. Jere meant what he said the night before—Wren really was damn near everything to him. Jere was perfectly fine with this.

“You awake, sir?” Wren mumbled sleepily next to him.

Jere nibbled on his neck a bit more in response, getting some moans. Wren was obviously tired, and he didn’t want to impose, but he couldn’t resist touching him and kissing him some more. Not only that, but Wren was starting to respond, arching and stretching his neck to offer up the most sensitive spots.

A few minutes passed. Jere was perfectly content lying here doing this all day, but Wren was stirring a little.

“Would you like breakfast, sir?”

Jere kept nibbling on his neck, his ears, whatever he could reach. “Can’t I just have you?”

“Mmm,” Wren replied, squirming a bit and twisting around to face him. “I’m kind of hungry.”

“I was actually thinking I could make breakfast for you,” Jere whispered in his ear, reluctant to take his mouth too far away. “Since you always make it for me. I thought you might be a bit tired after last night.”

Wren laughed a little. “It’s not a problem, sir.”

“I can actually cook a fairly decent breakfast,” Jere insisted. “It’s one of the only things I can cook—eggs, that is. And toast. And I know we have some fresh fruit, you just brought it home the other day. Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve had fresh mangoes? Or, at least, since I could afford them. Come on, let me make breakfast.”

“If you really want to, sir.” Wren looked a little uncertain.

“I do.” Jere quieted any further protests with a kiss, then hopped out of bed. “Wait here, I’ll bring it back!”

He hurried out of the room and into the kitchen. He just wanted to do something nice for the kid, and who in their right mind would turn down breakfast in bed? Even if his cooking skills were a little lacking.

About twenty minutes later, Jere returned, balancing two plates and tea on a tray. Wren, to his credit, had clearly gone to the bathroom and washed up a bit, and was waiting patiently in bed. He smiled when he saw Jere returning.

“It’s nothing fancy, but, you know,” Jere said, by way of explanation, as he set the food down.

They got settled in, and began to eat.

“This is actually quite good, sir,” Wren commented, trying the eggs.

“It’s nothing special,” Jere grinned. “Strangely enough, well, Matthias actually taught me how to cook eggs.
